Patient Care
The region's major treatment site and cornerstone of the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center...

The Barrett Center is a unique facility offering screening, diagnosis and treatment for all types of cancer at one central location. Consistently cited in U.S.News & World Report's guide to Best Hospitals, the Barrett Center is accredited by the American College of Surgeons for comprehensive care and serves as a resource for cancer education for patients, physicians, health professionals and the general community.

Barrett Center staff-oncologists, surgeons, pathologists and radiation oncologists-are all faculty members of the UC College of Medicine. Most of the medical staff are also members of the UC Physicians practice group, whose own Medical Arts Building is located next to and connected to both University Hospital and the Barrett Center.

The Barrett Center also houses the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center's radiation therapy, breast-screening and chemotherapy infusion services, the Cancer Clinical Trials Office and the Cancer Genetic Screening Clinic.

The Barrett Center continues to support innovative clinical research. Its physicians are involved in over 120 clinical trials sponsored through the National Cancer Institute and by private pharmaceutical companies. Faculty and staff of UC's Division of Surgical Oncology have been at the forefront in developing interdisciplinary programs and unique clinical trials for patients with pancreatic and liver malignancies.

Treatment is now also offered at UC Physicians' University Pointe facility in the northern Cincinnati suburb of West Chester. The High-Risk Breast Clinic at the Barrett Center is one of only two programs of its kind in the southern Ohio, northern Kentucky, and southeastern Indiana Tristate area and offers early detection services, surveillance, access to education and inclusion in clinical trials. The High-Risk Breast Clinic is the only facility in the Tristate to offer ductal lavage, a minimally invasive method of collecting cells from a woman's breast to detect for abnormal cells.

The Barrett Center is also home to LEXAR, the world's first high-precision radiotherapy/radiosurgery technology for treatment of tumors in most parts of the body.
