As the 21st century unfolds, the University of Cincinnati (UC) is entering a new era of growth and development.
Following a "strategic plan" for the new millennium, which we call UC|21, we intend to increase our capacity not only to lead in academic and scientific endeavors, but also to serve and enhance the quality of life for everyone, and benefit society in the new millennium.
The UC Cancer Center, an integral part of the university's Academic Medical Center, is playing a major role in this transformation. Through its commitment to excellence in research, recruitment of the best scientists, teachers and caregivers in the field, and the development of high-profile, interdisciplinary programs, the center exemplifies the change that is under way at the University of Cincinnati today.
A research-based but patient-care-oriented program, the UC Cancer Center encompasses not only scientists and physicians at the UC Academic Health Center, but also experts in a wide range of medical specialties at:
UC is justifiably proud of its cancer research and care programs, which are directed and staffed by some of world's leading authorities in the field and equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
The recognized benchmark of the quality of a medical research institution in the United States is the amount of financial support it receives from government, corporate and private sources. UC Cancer Center's status among its peers and national decision makers is evidenced by the fact that the center has almost tripled its funding over the past two years.
National Connections Besides its local collaborations, UC Cancer Center is also linked to research nationwide through its involvement in several cancer-oriented scientific organizations, including the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG), American College of Surgeons Oncology Group (ACOSOG), Radiation Treatment Oncology Group (RTOG), Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG) and National Adjuvant Breast Demonstration Project (NSABP).
The center is also a member of the American Association for Cancer Institutes and the Ohio Partnership for Cancer Control.
